Alex Loran is an enthusiastic and passionate saxophonist, composer, and educator based in Denver, Colorado. She received her Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the Thompson Jazz Studies Program at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2024.

 

Alex enjoys playing soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones regularly, as well as playing the flute and being a vocalist. She has played with a variety of groups across the Denver-Boulder metro area, and has been an active bandleader as well.

 

Alex teaches private saxophone, voice, and flute lessons, and has had experience as a classroom music teacher, and sectional leader. She has also been a Near-Peer Mentor with the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts. She currently helps teach jazz band at Heritage High School in Littleton. Alex works with Brava Jazz Publishing as the Marketing and Publishing Assistant.

 

Outside of music, Alex enjoys spending time with her friends and family and cat, Theo.

Dr. William “Bill” Stanley is a distinguished trombonist, educator, and advocate for brass pedagogy. For many years, he served as Associate Professor of Trombone at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he mentored generations of trombonists from beginners to advanced performers.

Dr. Stanley has appeared in a wide range of musical settings: as principal trombonist for the Colorado Ballet Orchestra, with Opera Colorado, and with ensembles such as the Boulder Brass and Colorado Brass Quintet. He has also been called upon as substitute and extra for the Colorado Symphony.

​

On the academic side, Dr. Stanley’s credentials include a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and both a master’s and doctoral degree from the University of Illinois.

 

Prior to his work at CU Boulder, he held teaching appointments at Temple University, Eastern Illinois University, and Millikin University.

Ryan Laney holds two degrees in Music Education: one from University of Northern Colorado for his undergraduate and Kansas State for his masters in education. 

 

Ryan taught band in the Boulder Valley School District for 10 years in both the middle and high school classroom settings.

 

He has operated R. Laney Percussion since 2008, which provides quality solo & ensemble music, composition services, and custom marching band drill for small-to-medium-size bands across the country every year.

 

Today he is heavily involved with the Denver Audubon Society's Master Birder Program and his video game music cover band, Airship Overdrive

Christine Lee is a young professional who works in the technology industry. She has a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance, a Bachelor of Business Administration, and a Master of Science in Information Systems from the University of Memphis.

 

She has performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade with the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in high school as well as toured Austria and Italy in a college band study abroad program. She has attended a clarinet workshop in Indiana University and masterclasses with famed clarinetists such as Bert Hara. Her former clarinet professor was Dr. Robyn Jones and Dr. Kelly Johnson.

 

After graduating from university, she has taught piano lessons at MusicLink Foundation and is a freelance clarinet teacher.

Johanna Burian is an active freelance horn player and brass instructor in the Denver metro area.

 

As a freelance musician, she plays in orchestras, chamber ensembles, and musical and opera pits throughout the Front Range. Her students regularly earn spots in local and state wide honor groups and youth orchestras.

 

Johanna earned a Master of Music in Horn Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and also holds a Bachelor of Music from DePauw University, in Greencastle, Indiana.

 

When she isn’t making music, Johanna enjoys hiking and exploring Colorado and the desert Southwest with her musician husband and twin daughters.
