The Yamaha SB7J SILENT Brass System lets trumpet and cornet players practice more quietly while still hearing a more natural brass sound through headphones. The system includes Yamaha's compact Pickup Mute and Personal Studio unit, which uses Brass Resonance Modeling to recreate more of the feel and sound of open playing than a standard practice mute alone.
This is a strong option for apartment practice, late-night practice, travel, warmups, and situations where full-volume trumpet playing is not practical. Like any practice mute system, it changes the feel compared with open playing, but the SILENT Brass setup gives players a much more usable practice experience than simply stuffing a mute in the bell and hoping the neighbors are forgiving.
